An APK teardown of the latest version of the Galaxy App wearable app proposes that Samsung’s next-gen smartwatches will indeed run Google’s Wear OS. The source has even noticed a new plugin with “water” as its codename, which is believed to be a Wear OS compatibility layer. It is also interesting to note that there has been a reference to “new os” hinting Samsung use Google’s wear OS in new smartwatches. This was before it developed Tizen. Tizen operating system has indeed been a leading Smart TV platform, however, one could possibly blame the absence of third-party apps for Galaxy Watches and battery life limitation as a few reasons for Samsung’s decision to use Google’s Wear OS. There have also been speculations about Google convincing Samsung to drop the Bixby voice assistant and the Samsung App store, but this hasn’t materialized yet.
Samsung working on two Galaxy Watches?
Samsung has not made any official statement accepting or negating the rumours. Thus, it is still unclear if the electronic giant will completely lose Tizen and use wear OS on its new smartwatches, or it will introduce a completelynew line of Wear OS-powered smartwatches, and still continue producing watches running on Tizen.
